Overview of Position:

Fugro is searching for a Electronics Technician or Technologist responsible for the operation and maintenance of airborne geophysical equipment and systems of the product line in the field for survey data acquisition, and is the first line of data quality control.  When in the office, the incumbent is responsible for assisting in the manufacture, calibration, maintenance, and repair of Fugro geophysical instrumentation.


Education:

  • Diploma in Electronics or Electronics Technology

Duties:

Project Preparation - 20%

  • Verify working condition of electronics equipment by conducting ground, pre-flight, and inflight tests.  Configure aircraft for each contract, as required
  • Provide data gathered from any test flights to the processing department
  • Review job specifications and prepare shipments to the field with required materials that is, spares, consumables, base station, etc

Geophysical Instrumentation and Data Acquisition - 75%

  • Prepare geophysical instrumentation in the office, which may include manufacture, maintenance, calibrations, repair, packing, etc. as directed by the Shop Supervisor
  • Mobilize to a survey area, which may include air travel or driving a company vehicle for extended periods
  • Review contract specifications and project work orders
  • Review project safety documentation including Risk Analyses and JSP
  • Participate in Job Safety Meetings and ensure the compliance of all crew members including aviation supplier personnel with all Fugro OSH&E and JSP policies, procedures, and with project specific work orders
  • As required, install geophysical instrumentation in accordance with STC approval documentation and with the assistance and approval of the aircraft engineer
  • Set up base station and verify working order / calibration of equipment       
  • Direct the aviation subcontractor personnel on survey requirements, daily scheduling, and survey flight planning
  • Airborne survey system calibration, acquisition, and quality control, while planning economical use of flying time throughout the survey.
  • Troubleshoot to determine malfunction and repair equipment as required
  • Ensure that all field data is clearly annotated and complete, prior to delivery to the processing department
  • Clarify / respond to any questions regarding data
  • Coordinate with other crewmembers to maintain a communications link with operations management.
  • Work as a member of the team to ensure all logistics, fuel, and resources are in place to move the project forward

Administration - 5%

  • Complete timesheet documentation and expense reports for submission to management
  • Participate in the preparation of Job Safety Plans and in Job Safety Meetings
  • As required, check the accuracy of and authorize daily helicopter flight reports

Crew Leadership

  • Ensure the smooth running of the field crew and, if designated as Crew Leader, distribute project tasks amongst the crew appropriately

Safety

  • Be aware of and adhere to the safety policies and procedures of the company which may include acting as Crew Safety Officer

Requirements:

Experience

  • 1-2 years experience in electronics operating and troubleshooting systems preferred

Skills/Abilities

  • Self-motivated - ability to work independently
  • Good leadership skills
  • Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting electronic systems, and solving logistical problems
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good communication skills - written and verbal

Working Conditions

The position requires the incumbent to work in the field approximately 6-8 months of the year.  A great deal of time will be spent in low flying aircraft so the incumbent must be able to tolerate these conditions.  Time not spent in the field will be spent in the electronics shop.
