Fugro is searching for a Geophysicist responsible for data processing, quality control and production of geophysical maps from electromagnetic, magnetic and radiometric digital data. Depending on the incumbent’s availability for travel, the position may require performance of these duties in a field environment, and include team leadership and client liaison responsibilities during survey data acquisition.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science degree in geophysics, physics, mathematics, earth sciences or a related discipline
Duties:
Project (Production) Processing – 75%
- Operate the main functions within the company’s geophysical software packages
- Process all data to final product stage at the survey site or in the office
- Recover, verify and finalize xy positional data
- Under supervision, produce final map products in the office
Quality Control and Client Liaison - 25%
- Perform field quality control and ensure compliance with contract specifications regarding data quality, including calling reflights when necessary
- Report to client on project progress and discuss technical aspects of projects with client, as necessary
Crew Leadership
- Ensure the smooth running of the field crew and, if designated as Crew Leader, distribute project tasks amongst the crew appropriately
Safety
- Be aware of and adhere to the safety policies and procedures of the company which may include acting as Crew Safety Officer
Experience
- Two years experience working as a geophysicist is considered an asset.
Skills/Abilities
- Strong communication skills - verbal and written
- Superior computer skills
- Knowledge of ATLAS and GEOSOFT systems software
- Creative
- Good organizational skills
- Good interpersonal skills; must be a team player
- Ability to motivate self and others
Working Conditions
The position will require the individual to work flexible hours as the workload dictates. Depending on the person’s availability for travel, the position may require performance of responsibilities in the field for 6 to 8 months per year.
