Case Studies - Mineral Exploration
Perseverance Discovery
Noranda and its affiliated companies have been exploring for and developing mines in the Matagami region of Quebec since the discovery of the Matagami Lake Mine in 1956, found while following up an airborne electromagnetic survey.
In recent years, Noranda geologists and geophysicists have focussed on new airborne electromagnetic technology and innovative geological concepts. This approach has resulted in the Perseverance discovery on March 21, 2000 as follow up of a MEGATEM survey. Based upon geological extrapolation and geophysical analysis the Equinox and Perseverance West discoveries followed shortly thereafter.
The inferred tonnages and grades are as follows:
Perseverance (inferred)
1.109 Mt @ 16.8% Zn, 1.2% Cu, 26 gpt Ag, 0.35 gpt Au
0.175 Mt @ 14.7% Zn, 2.1% Cu, 25 gpt Ag, 0.46 gpt Au
Perseverance West (inferred)
0.918 Mt @ 16,7% Zn, 1.6% Cu, 52 gpt Ag, 0.72 gpt Au
Equinox (inferred)
2.848 Mt @ 16.7% Zn, 1.2% Cu, 32 gpt Ag, 0.35 gpt Au
