Correlation Between Aeromagnetic Diurnal Rejection and Geomagnetic Indices

Abstract

We have analyzed the relationship between the rejection of aeromagnetic data during surveys and the variations in geomagnetic indices, based on data collected at Canadian Magnetic Observatories in 2001 and published geomagnetic indices. Results show that rejection percentages are poorly related to geomagnetic indices. In general, there is little correlation between the geomagnetic indices and the rate of rejection of aeromagnetic data. The best correlation is obtained with the daily sum of the Ap index for a station located in the sub-auroral zone.

This was presented at the 2004 SEG meeting in Denver, Colorado.
