Airborne geophysics is the collection of physical property measurements relating to the earth’s surface and subsurface, which may then be interpreted to provide an understanding of the geology and possible economic targets. Fugro designs, conducts and interprets airborne geophysical surveys to meet or exceed client needs.
An Overview of Airborne Geophysics
Introduction
Fugro Airborne Surveys offers a full suite of airborne geophysical services world-wide; on both fixed-wing and helicopter platforms. Our geophysical systems include time-domain and frequency-domain electromagnetics, high resolution magnetics, gamma-ray spectrometry, gravity and gravity gradiometry. The simultaneous collection of geophysical data from multi-sensor surveys is a cost-effective way to increase the information about an area with one flight of the airplane or helicopter.
Fugro Airborne Surveys has experienced in-house staff who are qualified to provide comprehensive services which include survey design and planning, data acquisition, data processing and interpretation.

Survey Planning
Our staff of over 100 professional geophysicists operate globally and are available to help you design surveys to address the specific needs of your project. We endeavor to understand your requirements in order to assist you in selecting the most effective technology to meet your survey objectives. Critical information gathered includes purpose of survey, specifics of area to be surveyed, type of target, estimated depth to target, background geophysical information, field and final products required and scheduling requirements. Geophysical modeling is carried out, as required, to demonstrate the effectiveness of a selected methodology and provide a guide to survey parameters such as flight line spacing and direction. Our experts offer a wealth of knowledge and experience to ensure the best technology is employed to address your survey needs.
Survey planning includes a comprehensive Risk Analysis to identify possible hazards in the survey area and at the operational base. Fugro works with its clients to ensure that the best possible procedures are in place for the health, welfare and safety of all those directly and indirectly involved with any project.
Data Acquisition
Fugro Airborne Surveys acquires electromagnetic, magnetic, gamma-ray spectrometric, gravity and gravity gradiometry data using its fleet of over 50 aircraft specially equipped with geophysical sensors and helicopters which are equipped as required on a project basis. Fugro Airborne Surveys has the experienced staff to plan and provide complete data acquisition services in any country around the world.
The safety of Fugro’s operations are of paramount importance. This is achieved by strong planning and experienced crews executing surveys to the highest corporate and industry standards. Aircraft are maintained by qualified staff to regulatory standards in the field or at our base of operations.
All data acquisition projects are completed in compliance with local laws and regulations. Our field crews aim to be good neighbors by the way in which they contribute directly or indirectly to the general well being of the communities within which we work.
Fugro will meet or exceed all your technical specifications for the acquisition of accurate data. Field crews are trained and equipped with advanced data acquisition and data processing systems to ensure the quality of data acquired on your project is acceptable prior to demobilization.
Products
Fugro Airborne Surveys has flown and processed data from thousands of airborne geophysical surveys throughout the world - from base, precious metal and petroleum exploration to environmental and engineering applications. State-of-the-art hardware and software represent only a portion of our data processing capabilities. Fugro Airborne Surveys' staff of experienced and knowledgeable geophysicists process and interpret the data and take pride in their hands-on attention to detail and thoroughness.
These processing teams are backed by sophisticated and totally integrated in-house facilities for image processing of geophysical data, CAD data capture, map production, 3D modeling and products, GIS merging and analysis of digital spatial datasets.
This range of skills provides a unique "one-stop" approach to the management of mineral, water, environmental, and oil exploration programs.
Integration of information from multi-sensor geophysical datasets is a powerful component of the Fugro Airborne Surveys interpretation. In addition to providing the possibility of direct target detection, multi-parameter geophysical data is used to generate geological models which are a cost-efficient way to increase the understanding of an area.
Non-Exclusive Data
Fugro Gravity & Magnetic Services houses the most comprehensive, privately owned, non-exclusive geophysical database. The database equates to approximately 10,000,000 line kilometers worldwide. Data may be licensed for entire surveys or for specific areas of interest. Land gravity data is also available.
