MIDAS - Helicopter-borne Horizontal Gradiometer

MIDAS

Demand for higher resolution aeromagnetic data lead to the development of the MIDAS low-level magnetic gradiometry platform. This system is capable of flying at a terrain clearance of less than 10 metres and at low speeds which result in sample intervals of less than 3 metres. MIDAS acquires magnetic data of a higher quality and density than conventional ground surveys. The following images display the significant enhancements possible in employing the horizontal gradient information in the gridding process.

Applications

  • Detailed Geological and Structural Mapping
  • Gold and Base Metal Exploration
  • Diamond Exploration (Kimberlites & Palaeochannels)
  • Coal Exploration
  • Ordnance Detection

Case Study: MIDASII - Applied in Layered Igneous Complexes
